VMware Hybrid Cloud Solutions

What is VMware Hybrid Cloud?

VMware hybrid cloud delivers a consistent foundation for your digital business.

VMware hybrid cloud is based on VMware Cloud Foundation, which delivers virtualized and software-defined data center (SDDC) technology everywhere you manage workloads. You get a single operating model for all of your applications, based on the most proven and widely deployed cloud infrastructure in the world.

VMware Cloud Foundation provides this consistency, along with a complete set of software-defined services for compute, storage, networking, security, and cloud
management to run enterprise apps – traditional or containerized – in private or public environments.

Hybrid cloud creates new possibilities for IT organizations, opening the door to costeffective scalability, flexibility and modernization. And with VMware, you can leverage your existing skills, tools, and policies to manage applications and infrastructure across your hybrid environment.

VMware offers a rapidly evolving mix of options to deploy VMware Cloud Foundation it can be installed, is available as hyper converged infrastructure, or can pre-installed on hardware. And it is available as a service from all six hyper scale cloud providers and 4,300 VMware Cloud Provider and partners.

Important Information on ESXi 7 Update 3

vSphere 7 Update 3 - What's New | VMware

VMware select customers have encountered issues while upgrading their environments to the ESXi 7 Update 3 release.

After careful consideration, VMware removed the ESXi 7 Update 3 release from our Product Downloads site. VMware made this decision to protect our customers from potential failures which may occur as they upgrade to ESXi 7 Update 3. While we believe that this would only impact a limited set of customers, it was serious enough for us to take the action. When we have resolved the upgrade issues in ESXi 7 Update 3, we will notify our customers that they may resume upgrades to ESXi 7 Update 3 at that time. For more details on the underlying issues, please refer to KB article 86398.

Our review process uncovered partner driver interoperability problems which prevented certain upgrade paths from completing in some customer environments. Specifically, driver VIB changes caused naming collisions in ESXi. This resulted in upgrade failures and related HA failures. Unfortunately, our quality testing and certification process missed this issue. We investigated options to address it with patches, however, due to certain operational complexities for our customers we removed the ESXi 7 Update 3 release from our download site.

Note that the VMware vCenter Server 7 Update 3 release remains stable and available. Customers may continue to download and upgrade to this latest vCenter Server release.

For customers who have already successfully upgraded to ESXi 7 Update 3, you may remain on this release and will have full support from VMware.

We will reissue ESXi 7 Update 3 as soon as we have the driver issues fully resolved–which involves working with our partners. Customers will be notified when the release is available via our normal release notifications, including a post on this vSphere Blog site.

Customer Quality Focus

VMware vSphere is used in the most mission-critical customer environments, and we take any escaped defects seriously. In addition to delivering an updated release, we are also focused on these continuous improvements:

  • We have a stringent Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) process to continually identify quality improvements we can make on a go-forward basis.
  • We treat update releases like major releases and keep our customers informed by publishing a KB article for each update release with a running list of any critical defects and workarounds.
  • We are also looking at further increasing transparency for subsequent releases by publishing quality metrics that are accessible both internally and externally.

Trust is one of the most important features we deliver with our products. VMware is committed to providing customers with a quality experience that also protects the integrity and security of their data and systems.

Azure VMware Solution Logical Design Poster for Deployment and Connectivity

Azure VMware Solution provides a unified VMware Software-Defined Data Center (private cloud) integrating VMware vSphere (vCenter Server and ESXi), vSAN, and NSX-T virtualization technologies. VMware HCX, a workload mobility platform designed to simplify migrations to the cloud, is also included.

Customers run the Azure VMware Solution private cloud natively on dedicated bare-metal Azure infrastructure and capitalize on existing VMware investments, skills, and tools. This also allows for operational consistency that leverages the scale, performance, and innovation of Azure.

Today, we are happy to introduce the Azure VMware Solution Logical Design Poster for Deployment and Connectivity.

Download: Azure VMware Solution Logical Design for Deployment and Connectivity (PDF)

On-premises Data Center – Hosting vSphere-based workloads residing on various storage and network platforms.

Azure Cloud – Showcasing Azure specific elements such as Subscriptions, Resource Groups, network connectivity, and popular native services including Azure VMware Solution.

Azure VMware Solution – Provides ExpressRoute, Edge, and NSX-T connectivity and vSphere cluster details.

Roles and Responsibilities – Provides an overview of configuration, deployment, and lifecycle operations to help customers understand who is responsible for the various elements that make up the service.

Firewall Rules – Provides the necessary ports and protocols required to establish connectivity between on-premises and the private cloud.

Planning and Deployment – Describes the 8 steps it takes to complete your private cloud deployment. Each step is clickable providing detailed information.

Throughout the poster you’ll find various elements are clickable and will take you to additional resources and documentation online.

VMware HCX 4.2

VMware HCX Licensing • Virtual-Simon.co.uk

HCX analyzes migration metrics and provides an estimate of the time required to complete the relocation phase of every configured vMotion, as well as the time required to complete the transfer phase of every RAV migration. For each virtual machine migration, the estimate is shown in the progress bar displayed on both the Migration Tracking and Migration Management pages while the transfer is underway.

VMware HCX 4.2.0 is a minor release that provides new features, UI enhancements, and fixed issues.

Interoperability Enhancements

HCX Enterprise feature set is now GA with these environments:

  •  Azure VMware Solution
  •  Google Cloud VMware Engine
  •  Oracle Cloud VMware Solution

Consult with your cloud provider for feature availability and requirements.

User Interface Enhancements

Migration Management – The Migration Management page now displays 50 VM migrations per page load. Previously, pages displayed only 15 VM migrations.

Migration Enhancements

Real-time Estimation of vMotion and Replication Assisted vMotion Migration – HCX analyzes migration metrics and provides an estimation of the time required to complete the relocation phase for every configured vMotion, and the time required to complete the transfer phase for every RAV migration. The estimate is shown in the progress bar displayed on the Migration Tracking and Migration Management pages for each virtual machine migration while the transfer is in underway.

Predictive Estimation of Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV) Migrations – For RAV migrations in Draft state, HCX uses machine learning to get an estimate of the time that may be required to complete the migration. The estimate is shown in the progress bar displayed on the Migration Management page. Predictive estimation is available for Early Adoption (EA) with both RAV and Bulk migration.
